Troubleshooting Slow Connections and Disconnects

Some of our customers switched to iNetCi because they got disconnected a lot or had slow connection speeds with their old Internet provider.  In some cases, switching to a new provider didn't solve the problem.  This page gives just a short explanation for why that might be.

There are usually two main reasons that you might get disconnected a lot, or have slow connections when dialing up to the Internet.  First, there might be a problem with your computer or the modem in your computer.  Second, you may have a phone line problem.  For another possible email-related disconnect problem, click here to see our Troubleshooting Email Problems page.

If there is a problem with your computer, because our technicians are experts at computer service and repair, we can diagnose and solve most computer and modem problems.  And we do this without charging you anything, it's absolutely free.  The only time there is a charge, is when your modem needs replaced.  And modems these days are very inexpensive.

If your computer is not the problem, then it's usually a problem with your phone line.  There could be a problem located in your house, or it may be a problem with the line outside of your house.  At this point, contact our support department (support@inetci.net) for more help.

You should be aware that in some cases there are phone line issues that cannot be solved.  Many areas have older phone lines that may have more problems and poor quality.  Some areas where the lines are newer, may be connected using a multiplexer, or splitter, that allows the phone company to connect many houses with only one actual phone line wired all the way back to the phone company's central switch.  These work great for regular phone calls, but often significantly reduce the performance of your modem.

If we determine that there is a phone line problem, you may have to contact the local phone company for additional help.  However, you should also be aware when doing so that the phone company may charge you for service, and still may not be able to help.  Your local phone company is required to only provide enough phone line quality for making regular voice phone calls.  Unfortunately, what's considered good voice quality, is not always good enough for high-speed modem connections.

Again, the best thing to do if you have problems like this is to contact our support department at support@inetci.net and we'll do everything we can to help you troubleshoot and resolve your problems.
